CloseJonah 2 shows us that God’s mercy can change our circumstances, but only His grace can change our hearts. Jonah’s sin takes him down – away from God, into the sea, and to the edge of death. Yet even there, God reaches him. The great fish is not simply punishment; it is God’s appointed rescue. But Jonah’s prayer reveals that being rescued is not the same as being repentant. True repentance is more than regret over consequences; it is grieving what grieves the heart of God. And this is where Jesus becomes the greater Jonah. Jonah went into the depths because of his own rebellion, but Jesus entered the depths for ours.
